PICKENS COUNTY HIRES NEW COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

Pickens County Council is pleased to announce that during a special called Council Meeting on July 24, 2014, the Council unanimously approved to hire Mr. Matthew Delk as the new Pickens County Administrator. Mr. Delk will join the staff on August 25, 2014.
Matthew Delk has served as the Assistant County Manager of Union County, NC since 2007. Union County is a fast-growing county of 213,000 on the east side of Charlotte. Prior to serving in Union County, he served as the County Manager of Halifax County, in the northeastern portion of the state. Matthew's service in North Carolina was focused on economic development, financial stabilization, and working with a myriad of public boards and commissions.
Prior to moving to NC in 2001, he served for five years in SC as the County Administrator of Bamberg County and as the Deputy County Administrator of Allendale County. In SC, Matthew focused on developing new initiatives, improving facilities, and financial stabilization.
Currently a Major in the SC National Guard, Matthew served in six unit commands, including command of a Firefighter Detachment in Mosul Iraq, command of an Engineer Explosive Hazard Team in Baghdad Iraq, and an assignment managing training for Afghanistan's combat engineers. His combat decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and ARCOM for Valor. In 2009, Matthew was inducted into the Palmetto Military Academy Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. He is one of two living soldiers inducted for Valor in combat.
Matthew received a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of South Carolina, and later received diplomas from the Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Matthew and his wife Elizabeth have two sons, Jacob and Ryan. The Delk family enjoys attending Church, the Boy Scouts, and sports.
Pickens County welcomes Mr. Delk, and looks forward to a positive transition.
